from Mexico in Mind an anthology she edited. Ranging from
1843 to present, Mexico in Mind offers a remarkably varied sampling
of English speaking writers’ impressions of the land south of
the border. John Reed rides with Pancho Villa in 1914; Jack Kerouac
and William Burroughs are literally intoxicated by Mexico. Ann
Louise Bardach meets the mysterious Sub-comandante Marcos face-to-face.

Mary Helen Ponce will be
reading from her book Hoyt Street. With telling detail,
Ponce evokes her childhood in this memoir. Without sacrificing
the memories of everyday joys, she conveys the poverty and prejudices
she experienced as a young girl growing up in the Mexican American
community of Pacoima, California during the 1940s.
